Observations
Here are images taken of my sketch book, of my first observations done this week. For these observations I looked at various different objects, with the topic 'Closely observing'. Observing these objects has helped me to think about different ways to create my observations, and what sort of subject I could focus on. I think the observations are a mixture of successful and unsuccessful drawings, some of the shapes are wrong and some drawings were drawn using unsuitable media, for instance using chalk coal or conte-crayon was not ideal for drawing observations of the Japanese paper doll because it really smudged all the work, which does not really represent the paper texture etc. I discovered that observational drawings of natural objects like pieces of wood, butterflies and vegetables were the most successful as it enabled me to draw more freely and create organic lines that made my drawings more expressive. Whereas mad made objects, like the paper doll, were harder to draw as these observations required more symmetry and accurate lines and shapes. Overall these observational drawings have helped me to give me a sense of direction to concentrate on natural things/objects, I am especially starting to find butterfly observations interesting, because of the fine and beautiful detail of their bodies and wings, however I will still explore and do observations of different things.
